This bittersweet memoir tells the story of a melancholic woman called Grace Pudel, hoarder of snails, romance novels, and guinea pigs. Shot in stop-motion animation, it is superbly directed and edited and has many hilarious moments, particularly via visual gags.

Trivia: The film is narrated by Australian actress Sarah Snook. The closing credits end with "This film was made by human beings".

Phil’s review: Australian storytelling at its best. Stirring tale of the challenges we face in living the life that is ahead of us, while our minds are moulded by our past.

I loved the charming French overtones throughout this film, both literary and aesthetic – it reminded me of Delicatessen. So I was delighted to discover that the protagonist's father, Percy Pudel, was voiced by Dominique Pinon – who starred in Delicatessen.
