Kneecap is set in West Belfast in 2019. Fate brings together disillusioned music teacher JJ with self-confessed 'low-life scum' rappers Naoise and Liam Og, their form of hip hop changing the sound of Irish music forever.
Under the name Kneecap, their band begins moulding their nation’s mother tongue to fit their tough, anarchic, hedonistic lives. But to get their voices heard the trio must overcome police, paramilitaries and politicians as the future of the Irish language erupts into the public arena.
Trivia: Features a brief cameo from Gerry Adams (former Sinn Fein president), whose face was famously obscured in TV news interviews throughout the Northern Ireland ‘Troubles’ during the 80s & 90s.
Phil’s review: Kneecap is a real-life Irish rap act whose actual members star in the film alongside Michael Fassbender. It’s bonkers, lacking in finesse ... and endless fun.
