Ever dreamed of a better version of yourself? You, but better in every way. All within reach with a new product called the Substance, which very literally generates another you. A new, younger, more beautiful, more perfect, you.
There's only one rule: You must share time with both versions; one week for you, one week for the new you. Seven days each. Sounds easy enough for a life of perfection. What could possibly go wrong?
Trivia: Supporting actress Margaret Qualley's mother Andie MacDowell co-starred with The Substance’s star, Demi Moore, in St. Elmo's Fire (1985), a career-making film for Demi and Andie.
Phil’s review: Like an episode of Black Mirror on steroids. Very strong steroids. Gripping from the outset and a white-knuckle ride throughout. Demi Moore brilliantly and resolutely channels the anger felt by the current generations of objectified women – via a gory, powerful dream in which scores are settled... in unsettling ways.
